The Opportunity
We are looking for a hands-on technical professional who can build, maintain, and improve the e-commerce and internal systems that support our regional FMCG business. This role is best suited to someone who enjoys solving practical business problems through e-commerce development, internal systems improvement, integrations, and automation.
In this role, you will work on our Shopify storefronts, WordPress sites, and PHP-based internal applications used across more than 10 countries. The work covers both customer-facing e-commerce improvements and internal tools that help teams such as finance, inventory, HR, and operations work more efficiently.
You will work closely with commercial, marketing, and operations teams to turn business needs into reliable technical solutions. This role is suited to an independent worker who enjoys both e-commerce development and backend systems, can understand business priorities, and communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical teams
Key Responsibilities
1. E-Commerce & Marketing Technology
- Manage and support multiple Shopify storefronts and WordPress sites across the region.
- Build and maintain Shopify features using Liquid, Metaobjects, AJAX APIs, and related tools.
- Support requirements such as product bundles, localized checkout flows, and customer journey improvements.
- Support tracking and marketing technology setup (Google Tag Manager, GA4, CRM integrations), growing into broader ownership as our tech capabilities expand.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure campaign, customer, and transaction data is captured accurately and passed between systems reliably.
- Work with regional business leaders to understand priorities and convert them into technical requirements.
- Regularly review site speed, Core Web Vitals, technical SEO, and checkout performance.
- Make code-level improvements that support better conversion rates, sales performance, and customer experience.
- Use data and testing to validate whether technical changes are improving business outcomes.
2. Internal Systems & Automation
- Develop, maintain, and improve custom PHP-based internal applications.
- Review existing systems and recommend practical improvements to reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- Reduce manual data entry by automating repeatable operational tasks and identifying inefficient steps.
- Deploy automation scripts, AI tools, and suitable technologies to solve real business problems (e.g., product tagging, customer support routing, data cleaning, and workflow automation).
- Ensure new tools are implemented securely, reliably, and are easy for business users to adopt.
3. Infrastructure Management
- Manage Linux-based hosting environments for regional websites and applications.
- Lead technical troubleshooting for website, integration, and system issues.
Requirements
1. Experience:
- 5+ years of full-stack development, ideally in e-commerce, retail, or FMCG.
- You don't need to be an expert in everything, but you must be comfortable jumping between e-commerce platforms, internal systems, integrations, and general troubleshooting.
2. Technical Skillset
- Backend & Systems: Strong PHP development skills and solid SQL database experience. Experience with Laravel or similar modern PHP frameworks is a strong advantage.
- Frontend & E-Commerce: Strong Shopify development experience, including Liquid, Storefront API, checkout customization, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
- CMS: Experience with WordPress, including custom plugin or theme development.
- APIs: Experience integrating systems using REST or GraphQL APIs.
- Marketing Tech (Added Advantage): Exposure to tools such as Google Tag Manager, GA4, CRM integrations, or server-side tracking.
- Systems Architecture: Experience with Linux hosting environments and deployment workflows.
3. Business & Commercial Awareness
- Strong understanding of how code impacts the business.
- Comfortable working with metrics (conversion rate, average order value, customer acquisition cost, customer lifetime value).
- Understands how site speed, checkout experience, tracking accuracy, and automation affect overall performance.
4. Communication & Collaboration
- Able to explain technical issues and trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable collaborating with senior stakeholders, regional leads, marketing, finance, inventory, HR, and operations teams.
- Organized and comfortable managing work through tools such as Asana and Microsoft Teams.
