Role Description The Tools Designer is a full-time, on-site role based in Pontian, responsible for designing and developing precision tooling and molds to support SPE’s manufacturing operations. This role includes creating detailed tooling and mold designs, preparing engineering drawings and 3D models, and collaborating with production, R&D, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability, durability, and cost effectiveness. The Tools Designer will analyze customer specifications, recommend design improvements, and support troubleshooting of tooling-related issues on the shop floor. Day-to-day tasks also involve coordinating with suppliers, reviewing trial runs, implementing design changes based on feedback, and ensuring compliance with internal standards and industry requirements. The role contributes directly to continuous improvement of tooling performance, cycle time, and product quality across high and low volume production.
Qualifications
- Ability to design precision tools and components, including strong skills in Tooling Design and Mold Design.
- Competence in broader Design Engineering activities such as concept development, detailed drawings, and tolerance analysis.
- Practical understanding of mold construction and performance, including experience working with Mold components and assemblies.
- Hands-on experience with Injection Molding processes, mold trials, and optimization of tooling for cycle time and part quality.
- Relevant technical diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool & Die, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX or equivalent) for 2D/3D design and documentation.
- Knowledge of machining processes, materials for tooling, and basic GD&T for precision parts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a focus on quality and safety.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
