Role & Responsibilities:

  • Translate product and system requirements into electrical specifications, architectures, interface definitions, and verifiable design outputs.
  • Design and review schematics; select components; guide or perform PCB layout; and support prototype bring-up, integration, debugging, and design iteration.
  • Develop robust analog, digital, power, sensing, communication, and motor-control circuitry appropriate for medical robotic applications.
  • Plan and execute design verification, including test methods, protocols, traceable results, reports, and resolution of anomalies.
  • Apply sound practices for grounding, shielding, signal integrity, power integrity, thermal performance, reliability, and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Create and maintain controlled engineering outputs, including schematics, PCB files, bills of materials, specifications, drawings, work instructions, test records, and design-change documentation.
  • Work with systems, firmware, software, and mechanical engineers to manage interfaces and resolve cross-disciplinary design issues.
  • Support risk management, design reviews, design transfer, DFM/DFT, supplier engagement, production qualification, and product sustaining activities.
  • Support investigation of production and field issues using structured troubleshooting and root-cause analysis; implement effective corrective or design-improvement actions.
  • Plan and support external laboratory testing for electrical safety and EMC, including radiated and conducted emissions and immunity; assess results and drive technical closure of findings. Design, testing and qualify PCBA/ module in accordance with design specification.
  • Make or recommend technical design decisions within the assigned scope, subject to the company’s design-control and approval processes.
  • Review electrical design outputs and test evidence; approve them when formally delegated as an authorized reviewer or approver.
  • Raise, document, and escalate safety, quality, compliance, schedule, or technical risks, and recommend proportionate controls.
  • Pause or reject testing or design implementation where an uncontrolled safety risk, invalid test condition, or clear nonconformity is identified.
  • Initiate engineering changes, investigations, and corrective actions, and provide technical input to supplier and component acceptance decisions. Work closely with peers, such as software, firmware, and mechanical engineering, to design a medical robot.

Competency Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A master’s degree is advantageous but not required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in product design and development.
  • Sound knowledge of analog and digital electronics, power supplies, microcontroller-based systems, sensors, actuators, and common wired communication interfaces.
  • Practical experience with schematic capture and PCB-layout tools; experience with Altium Designer or an equivalent platform is advantageous.
  • Hands-on capability with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, electronic loads, and other relevant test equipment.
  • Ability to isolate faults systematically, interpret data, document evidence, and convert findings into robust design improvements.
  • Ability to understand embedded-system behaviour and collaborate effectively with firmware engineers; hands-on embedded C/C++ experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and traceable engineering specifications, design records, test documents, and reports.
  • Able to work independently while communicating effectively across engineering, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, purchasing, service, and supplier teams.
  • Development of medical devices, robotics, motion-control systems, precision electromechanical products, or other regulated products.
  • Design controls and risk management within an ISO 13485 quality system, including familiarity with ISO 14971.
  • Electrical safety and EMC standards for medical electrical equipment, particularly IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2.
  • Design transfer, production support, component lifecycle management, supplier qualification, and engineering change control.
