Role Introduction
To help lead and support Cargo Services in executing the corporate strategy and various initiatives relating to cargo services and delivery.
To drive operational excellence and service delivery by partnering with stakeholders to provide clarity, guidance and support on the set performance targets and established matrix.
Key Responsibilities
Safety and Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all safety, security, regulatory, corporate and departmental policies, procedures and standards.
- Manage cargo safety matters, including dangerous goods handling, freighter load control, cargo build-up and aircraft loading.
- Support Emergency, Accident, Crisis Response and Business Continuity Plan activities as required.
Service Delivery and Excellence
- Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring the Cargo Servicing Plan and handling agent performance, reporting operational results and service standards.
- Drive operational excellence by managing vendor performance, KPIs and service levels.
- Ensure safe, efficient and on-time freighter and passenger aircraft operations with optimum cargo uplift.
- Execute cargo service delivery strategies and operational plans in line with Head Office and regional objectives.
- Liaise with ports, commercial teams, airport authorities, government agencies and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication.
- Optimise aircraft space and weight utilisation through coordination with sales teams, handling agents and customers.
- Develop and improve local cargo procedures and service standards to support core and specialised products.
- Conduct regular performance reviews with service providers and communicate policy and procedural updates.
- Perform quality checks, resolve operational issues, and ensure timely follow-up of corrective actions.
- Maintain and ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures by employees and handling agents.
- Manage Unit Load Device inventory levels to meet operational and seasonal requirements.
- Participate in audits, assessments and projects, ensuring completion of follow-up actions.
Efficiency Improvement
- Ensure Cathay cargo notices, policies and operational updates are communicated and understood by employees and suppliers.
- Manage manpower rostering to support operational requirements in a cost-effective manner.
- Identify future service and manpower requirements and implement standardised procedures where appropriate.
- Provide coaching and training to cargo team members and act as the designated trainer when required.
People Development and Performance Management
- Lead, support and motivate the cargo team to achieve operational and business objectives.
- Build a high-performing team with the appropriate structure, capabilities and positive team culture.
- Supervise, coach and mentor employees, fostering collaboration and teamwork.
- Demonstrate leadership in line with Cathay's values and behavioural expectations.
- Develop talent, identify learning opportunities and support employee training and development.
- Maintain ongoing performance and development discussions with team members.
- Promote employee engagement and understanding of departmental goals and priorities.
- Support succession planning and internal development programmes in line with Head Office direction.
- Enhance the employee experience in line with Cathay's people objectives.
E&A
- Fulfil Emergency, Accident and Crisis Response responsibilities as required.
Requirements
Academic Qualifications
- High School graduation
- Tertiary education or equivalent preferably with a cargo or logistics background is an advantage
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in cargo operations ideally with a customer service background
- Freight load control and freighter ramp/loading operation experience is a distinct advantage
- Knowledge of CHAMP CargoSpot System
- Experience in supervising or leading a team to success
- A self-motivated leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proven success record in setting and achieving goals
- Good analytical, problem solving and planning skills
