This is a leadership role responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities within our petrochemical facility. The successful candidate will lead a team of mechanical technicians, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective execution of planned, corrective, and breakdown maintenance. The role also plays a critical part in maintaining equipment reliability, enforcing maintenance standards, and supporting continuous plant operations through effective troubleshooting, equipment reinstatement, and maintenance execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, supervise and deploy mechanical technicians in preventive, corrective, breakdown and turnaround maintenance activities.
  • Set daily work priorities, allocate work to technicians, monitor job progress, workmanship and completion, ensuring work is executed safely and effectively.
  • Supervise the overhaul, repair, inspection, testing and reinstatement of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, blowers, extruders, gearboxes, mechanical seals, valves, piping systems and associated equipment.
  • Enforce compliance with company Operational Excellence (OE) requirements, process safety standards, permit-to-work requirements, isolation and lock-out/tag-out requirements, lifting practices, maintenance procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed in accordance with approved job plans, drawings, technical manuals, procedures and applicable engineering standards.
  • Verify critical measurements, inspection hold points, clearances, alignment requirements, assembly checks and acceptance criteria and confirm equipment is mechanically safe and ready for hand back to Operations.
  • Lead first-line troubleshooting and technical assessment of mechanical equipment failures, and determine when support from Reliability Engineering, Inspection, Mechanical Superintendent, equipment vendors or external specialists is required.
  • Participate in equipment-failure investigations and structured root-cause analyses and ensure assigned corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Support weekly maintenance planning and scheduling meetings by providing technical input, technician availability, execution constraints, work progress and feedback on job-plan quality.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance execution with Operations, Maintenance Planning, Reliability Engineering, Inspection, contractors and other maintenance disciplines.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of SAP work orders, maintenance findings, equipment-condition reports, follow-up notifications and maintenance history.
  • Coach and assess mechanical technicians, set clear performance expectations, and address poor performance, non-compliance or unacceptable workmanship in a fair and consistent manner.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Technology or a related mechanical discipline.
  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, supported by relevant hands-on plant maintenance and frontline supervisory experience, will be an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience in the petrochemical, refinery, oil and gas, chemical-processing or comparable process industrial sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in front-line leadership capacity such as Mechanical Supervisor, Acting supervisor or an equivalent role leading technicians and contractors.
  • Practical experience in leading planned maintenance, breakdown response, major overhauls and reinstatement of rotating and mechanical equipment, preferably in shutdown or turnaround environments and under production-pressure conditions.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong practical and technical knowledge of rotating equipment, piping systems, valves and fixed equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment cross-sectional drawings, P&IDs, technical manuals, job plans and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving capability, with the ability to assess equipment failures, respond to abnormal equipment-condition findings and escalate technical risks appropriately.
  • Ability to identify critical overhaul measurements, inspection hold points, alignment requirements, workmanship standards, equipment-acceptance criteria and verify equipment readiness for hand back to Operations.
  • Ability to challenge unsupported technical conclusions, address poor workmanship or non-performance constructively and firmly, and coach technicians to strengthen capability.
  • Working proficiency in SAP Plant Maintenance Module or similar Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, with the ability to document maintenance findings and follow up requirements accurately.
