OnCore Data Analyst – Remote Work Arrangement

The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI) was re-designated as a Comprehensive Cancer center by the NCI in early 2022, and is a prominent, dynamic, growing, and complex Institute within the Stanford University School of Medicine. The SCI actively works to build synergies and collaborations among faculty with cancer-relevant expertise from four Schools and over 30 departments across Stanford University.

SCI is seeking a Data Analyst 3 to perform complex technical work associated with a wide variety of analytical data and fulfill customized and/or complex, single, and multi-data sources’ information requests. Identify new data sources and approaches. Data Analyst 3 will independently manage and analyze large volumes of information, typically technical or scientific, with minimal supervision. This position will focus on supporting oncological clinical research, production systems, and ongoing maintenance while maintaining close collaborations with internal and external stakeholders. The OnCore Data Analyst 3 will be part of a team responsible for collecting and quality-assuring NCI-required data and will provide ongoing support to users throughout the Cancer Institute and the School of Medicine. He/She will generate data tables using SQL queries in Snowflake for data extraction and utilize OnCore, REDCap, and Tableau for presentations, publications, and posters. In addition, the Data Analyst will prepare customized reports about Stanford oncological clinical trials and their accrual for the NCI, SCI Administration, and Principal Investigators.

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Research Services, the OnCore Data Analyst 3 will support clinical cancer research. The Director will be conversant with the Institute's goals, mission, and priorities and will use this knowledge to conduct impactful clinical research focused on high-quality and efficiency. We are seeking candidates with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. Candidates must be eager to take on challenges with a high degree of professionalism, initiative, and flexibility. Responsibilities include working with the research team, clinical staff, and Stanford Health Care departments to support safe and compliant clinical research.

Desired Qualifications

• Strong technical background in SQL, Snowflake, data modeling, and data preparation.
• Experience working in Tableau Desktop and REDCap.
• Working knowledge of clinical trials
• Ability to analyze complex systems and workflows.
• Experience with electronic medical records system such as Epic
• Proficiency with NCI’s Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).
• Excellent problem solving, analytical, and project management skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Core Duties:

• Define and drive areas of investigations to assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs, and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information, including summary interpretations of results.
• Develop and design methods for identifying data patterns and trends in available information sources using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques. Proactively suggest areas of investigations.
• Design and create meaningful reports that effectively illustrate key findings within the data. Identify and recommend strategic data collection and reporting requirements. Effectively convey findings and recommendations to varied audience groups and senior leadership.
• Create non-routine databases and generate related information summaries. Develop innovative algorithms and statistical models to help with finding key insights.
• Perform advanced statistical analyses that are appropriate for complex datasets and reporting requirements.
• Provide subject matter expertise for ad-hoc projects and inquiries (e.g., requests for statistical analyses or surveys).
• Direct and drive the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection.
• Lead and/or collaborate with technical staff, project teams or vendors to develop standardizing processes and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and metrics.
• May lead testing of prototype software and participate in the approval and release process for new software.
• May oversee or supervise staff in the development and implementation of programs or functions.
  
  

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree.

Minimum Experience

Five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics, or engineering.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Advanced experience applying analytical software, database management system software, database reporting software, database user interface and query software, and data mining software.
• Advanced ability to collect data using a variety of methods, such as data mining and hardcopy or electronic documentation study, to improve or expand databases.
• Advanced experience utilizing complex statistical tools and techniques.
• Considerable interpersonal and communication skills to effectively convey findings and recommendations to a wide variety of audiences and influence senior leadership & faculty in key decisions.
• Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible, and rigorous attention to detail.
• Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database or scrutinize the form of a question.
• Ability to work with data of varying levels of complexity, quality, and validity.
• Demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner meeting user requirements.
• Effectively manage multiple requests from internal and external customers.
• Demonstrated experience in leading projects with users/clients.
