Job Summary

The Data Center Operator is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and supporting the daily operations of our critical data center infrastructure. Operating as the first line of defense, this role ensures maximum system uptime, environmental stability, data security, and seamless execution of routine batch runs and backups.

This position typically operates on a 24/7 rotational shift schedule to provide continuous operational support.

Key Responsibilities:

1. System & Environmental Monitoring

• Continuous monitoring of critical Data Center infrastructure, including servers, storage, network devices, and system consoles.
• Monitor building facilities and environmental metrics (e.g., Power, HVAC/cooling systems, UPS, fire suppression, and water leakage systems).
• Track and log routine system performance, hardware status, and server health, escalating abnormal metrics immediately.

2. Operations & Incident Management

• Execute daily, weekly, and monthly system backups, End-of-Day (EOD) processing, and batch jobs, ensuring successful completion.
• Provide Tier-1 technical support and act as the primary point of contact for service alerts and system incidents.
• Identify, log, and escalate hardware, software, or environmental issues to the appropriate L2/L3 support teams or vendors using ITSM ticketing tools.
• Assist with physical hands-on support (e.g., racking/stacking servers, cabling, and labeling hardware).

3. Security & Compliance

• Manage physical access control to the Data Center, ensuring all visitors, vendors, and clients are authenticated, logged, and accompanied according to security protocols.
• Manage and audit the custody of physical server rack keys.
• Ensure operations conform to company security policies and industry compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, ITIL).

4. Inventory & Documentation

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of DC procedures, system runbooks, and server/rack layouts.
• Manage and update inventory logs for DC hardware assets, spare parts, and consumables.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Experience: 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in a Data Center or Network Operations Center (NOC) environment.
• Technical Skills:
• Basic knowledge of Windows Server, Linux/Unix, and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
• Familiarity with structured cabling (fiber/copper) and basic networking hardware (switches, routers).
• (Optional/Plus): Experience with system schedulers (e.g., Control-M, Zena) and mainframe environments (e.g., AS400).
• Certifications (Preferred but not mandatory): ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Server+, CCNA, or Certified Data Centre Associate (CDCP).
• Shift Work: Willingness to work in a rotating 12-hour shift pattern (including nights, weekends, and public holidays).

Pay: From RM5,000.00 per month
