Focus on increasing the visibility of the Organization in the field of the Global Business Unit of Advanced Technologies and support opportunities by leading project development activities (Concept Development)
Drive and support up-front business development and sales, peer reviews and value engineering for the Mechanical design discipline
Understand client needs and instantly translate client’s ideas and goals into business opportunities for the organization
Establish technically sound and cost efficient design solutions and value engineering opportunities, based on client needs
Support the expansion of Organization’s Off-Site Manufacturing potential
Oversee the preparation and quality of technical proposals to respond to RFPs (requests for proposal), RFQs (requests for quotation) and RFIs (requests for information). Ensure that all technical cost components are considered and properly evaluated before bid submission
Act as a subject matter expert for the Mechanical engineering discipline, covering clients requirements from design development to the project (facility and production) implementation
Monitor, develop and communicate latest industry and client technology trends for the Mechanical engineering discipline and identify opportunities to expand Organization’s technical advantage
Consolidate and update a benchmark database for the Mechanical engineering discipline in regards to technical specifications as well as cost KPI’s in collaboration with projects executed
Strengthen Organization’s business culture via the development and application of robust processes, including risk-based problem solving and continuous improvement methodologies for the concept design phase
Technical:
Attend client meetings to understand project expectations and requirements
Integrate into global proposal teams and follow up with deliverables for the Mechanical discipline for large/complex Advanced Technology projects. This includes:
System and redundancy concepts
System generation and distribution routing space allocation
System equipment selection
System schematics, P&IDs, layouts and elevation concepts
Develop a conceptual design for Mechanical engineering discipline for projects in the Business Unit Advanced Technology Facilities globally. This includes the Semiconductor, Photovoltaic, Battery and Flatpanel Display Industry
Attend globally client meetings to present and discuss design solutions
Represent a focal point of competence for the Mechanical engineering discipline during internal design reviews
Review and advice on existing (in-house or from external) Mechanical design documentation. This could be programming, concept, detailed or construction design information
Identify value-engineering options during the concept and detailed design phase of a project
Provide technical support to project teams during the construction phase of the project
Provide professional advice on regulatory compliance
Integrate into Organization’s global network of subject matter experts and drive the development of best known methods, alternative methodologies and future technologies
Cooperate with the other disciplines of the concept development team (civil & structural, architectural, electrical, process and Sustainability) to provide best technical and constructable design solutions for the client
Support the expansion of Off-Site Manufacturing potential for new projects during concept design development and with senior engineering advice for the ongoing Company's initiative
Ensure that Company’s Mechanical best known methods and standards are implemented where appropriate
Commercial:
Create and maintain “standard” designs that meet “best in class” standards whilst maintaining cost efficient models
Support Company’s estimating team to develop bills of materials and package definition documentation for above mentioned “standard designs”. Ensure traceability of technical scope through documentation.
Where “standard” designs evolve from their original, support Company’s estimating team to update bill of materials and package documentation to ensure timely updates are implemented.
Support Company’s estimating team to develop associated costs for the Mechanical engineering discipline during the programming and conceptual design phases for large / complex Advanced Technology projects
Develop the best integrated and cost effective Mechanical engineering solutions in balance with the client’s budget expectation
Support the tendering and estimating activities of Mechanical works for projects during the bid period and in specific cases after the project award
Environment, Health and Safety - Injury Free Workplace Culture (IFW):
Provide visible EHS leadership by following the practices listed for Engineering in the IFW Playbook
Establish & ensure compliance with Design for Safety procedures, checklist and reviews and actively promote the value of Design for Safety
Execute Design for Safety reviews with Engineers, Construction and Commissioning Departments
Support the continuous improvement of design documents by integrating IFW focused Lessons
Promote safe working practices and protect the health and wellbeing of employees, subcontractors and clients at all times
Quality:
Promote quality as an integral part of the engineering work
Ensure that work will be executed on the basis of Organization's documented standard workflows and procedures
Ensure that design development activities and design reviews are scheduled and executed diligently and that respective documentation is stored at the relevant proposal/project location
Job Requirements
Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)
At least 20 years of Design and Construction experience in a high-tech industry or other multiple discipline orientated construction business
At least 10 years of experience in a leading related position of a fast track project
At least five years of experience of managing staff, coaching/mentoring and developing people
Experience in strategic and operational planning and implementation
