Job Role: Software Development Lead (Python + Lua + Perl)

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Design and implement the Kong API Gateway architecture including routing rules, load balancing, rate limiting, request transformation, and logging plugins
• Develop custom Kong plugins using Lua to meet platform-specific authentication, authorisation, and data transformation requirements
• Lead the development of integration services in Python and Perl to support synchronous and asynchronous data exchange between ICX modules and Ranhill SAJ legacy systems
• Define and govern API versioning standards, API contracts, and service catalogue documentation across all ICX workstreams
• Implement and manage API security policies including OAuth2/JWT authentication, API key management, mutual TLS, and IP whitelisting
• Collaborate with all Development Leads and the Development Managers to align integration contracts and resolve API dependency conflicts
• Manage API monitoring, alerting, and performance dashboards to ensure sub-200ms response times for critical API endpoints
• Develop and maintain integration test harnesses and mock services to support parallel workstream development
• Own the API developer portal and ensure all service endpoints are documented with OpenAPI/Swagger specifications
• Coordinate with the Infrastructure Lead on Kong deployment topology within the Azure Kubernetes Service environment
• Manage API versioning, deprecation strategies, and backward compatibility for evolving service contracts
• Produce and maintain integration architecture documentation, data flow diagrams, and security design documents

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
• Minimum 12 years of software development and integration experience with at least 3 years specifically in API gateway and integration platform development
• Expert-level Kong API Gateway knowledge including declarative configuration, plugin development, hybrid deployment, and the Kong Admin API
• Deep proficiency in Lua scripting for custom Kong plugin development
• Strong Python and Perl development skills for integration service and ETL pipeline development
• Comprehensive understanding of REST, SOAP, GraphQL, and gRPC API design patterns
• Expert knowledge of API security standards including OAuth2, JWT, OpenID Connect, mutual TLS, and API key management
• Experience with API monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Kong Vitals
• Proficiency in OpenAPI/Swagger specification for API documentation
• Understanding of message queuing systems for asynchronous integration
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for API gateway deployment in cloud environments
• Knowledge of Azure API Management or equivalent cloud-native API management platforms
