Job Description
The Chief Officer, the head of the Deck Department, shall assist the Master and control shipboard operations under the jurisdiction of the Deck Department under the Master’s direction. He shall be responsible for the following duties:
- The watch-keeping for the navigation and cargo work.
- The operation, care and maintenance of the facilities and equipment under the jurisdiction of the Deck Department.
- The receipt and delivery, stowage and custody of cargo and deck stores.
- The control of the hull condition including GM, draft, trim and list.
- The control of fresh water and ballast.
- The control of health and disinfection on board.
- The control of living quarters.
- The maintenance of the oil record book.
- The labour management and evaluation for the officers and crew of Deck Department.
- The measures for accident prevention in the operation of the Deck Department.
- The control of dangerous articles under the jurisdiction of the Deck Department.
- The security, maintenance and the control of fittings and ship’s stores related to the Deck Department.
- The maintenance and safe keeping of drawings and logbooks under the jurisdiction of the Deck Department.
- The checking for absent and remaining visitors onboard before departure.
- The security and safety measures for the stowaways.
- Other matters instructed by the Master
