Role Description The R&D C++ Software Engineer is a full-time, on-site position based in Penang, Malaysia. In this role, the engineer designs, implements, and optimizes C++ software components that power deep learning–based optical inspection solutions for the electronics industry. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and maintaining core algorithms, collaborating with research teams to translate prototypes into robust production code, and performing code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning. The engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to integrate software modules into system architectures, ensure reliability and scalability, and contribute to technical documentation and continuous improvement of development practices.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Computer Science and Software Development, with proficiency in C++ and modern software engineering practices.
- Experience in Research and Development (R&D) and Research, including the ability to explore new approaches, validate concepts, and apply findings to practical solutions.
- Skills in Software Design, including architecture, modularization, and understanding of design patterns for high-performance, maintainable systems.
- Familiarity with deep learning, computer vision, or related AI domains is highly beneficial, especially in industrial or manufacturing contexts.
- Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git), collaborative development workflows, and debugging and profiling tools.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an on-site team environment, communicate clearly, and manage tasks in a fast-paced R&D setting.
- Experience with Linux development environments, build systems (e.g., CMake), and real-time or embedded systems is an advantage.
