Job Description

Research Engineer / Associate, Acoustic Research Laboratory, Tropical Marine Science Institute

The Acoustic Research Laboratory (ARL) undertakes research projects in the area of underwater acoustics and marine robotics. The Research Engineer / Associate will help team members across several projects to develop, implement & test algorithms for machine learning and/or computer vision. In addition to algorithmic work, the Research Associate is expected to work with engineers to help develop systems to test the algorithms, help plan & conduct field trials, collate & organize data, process the data using the algorithms, write up the results in the form of internal & external reports as well as publications & patents.

Qualifications

• Bachelor/Masters or equivalent degree in machine learning / computer vision
• Experience with marine robotics is desirable but not mandatory
• Experience with practical machine learning (for computer vision preferred)
• Strong scientific programming skills (experience with Julia or Python programming languages preferred)
• Willingness to learn new skills
• Interest in practical implementation & field work (at sea)
