About the Role
Our client, a leading global financial technology organisation, is looking for an experienced Linux Support Engineer to join its Operations Support team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong Linux administration and production support background who enjoys troubleshooting complex technical issues within a mission-critical environment.
Working as part of a global follow-the-sun support model, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, availability, and performance of Linux-based production systems supporting trading platforms and financial market applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Level 1 and Level 2 production support for Linux-based applications and infrastructure.
- Monitor the health and performance of production systems, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact business operations.
- Troubleshoot Linux operating system, application, network, and connectivity issues using system logs and diagnostic tools.
- Perform root cause analysis for production incidents and work closely with Engineering and Infrastructure teams to implement permanent fixes.
- Support application deployments, system upgrades, maintenance activities, and production releases.
- Monitor scheduled jobs, batch processes, and system alerts to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Manage user access, permissions, and system configurations across Linux environments.
- Execute SQL queries for troubleshooting, data validation, and operational support.
- Collaborate with global support teams to ensure service continuity across multiple time zones.
- Maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in weekend maintenance, production releases, and on-call support when required.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 4+ years of experience supporting Linux production environments.
- Strong hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting Linux/UNIX operating systems.
- Excellent knowledge of Linux commands, shell environments, system logs, processes, file systems, and performance monitoring.
- Experience supporting mission-critical production applications in a 24x7 environment.
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, FTP, and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Experience writing and executing SQL queries for production support and analysis.
- Exposure to scripting using Bash, Shell, or Python would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Splunk, Grafana, Prometheus, Nagios, or similar platforms is desirable.
