Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for analyzing oil samples and equipment condition data to identify potential issues, provide technical recommendations, and support customers in improving equipment reliability and maintenance performance.
Specific Responsibilities:
Oil Analysis & Diagnostics
- Perform daily diagnosis and interpretation of oil analysis results in the Oil Condition Monitoring (OCM) Laboratory.
- Assess the condition of lubricants and equipment based on laboratory test results.
- Identify abnormal conditions, potential equipment problems, and possible root causes.
- Provide clear diagnostic comments and recommend appropriate preventive or corrective actions.
- Compare historical and current test results to identify trends and potential equipment failures.
- Review abnormal or out-of-specification results and recommend retesting when necessary.
- Conduct visual inspections of oil samples to identify contamination or irregularities.
Customer Support
- Respond to customer enquiries regarding test results, diagnosis reports, and maintenance recommendations.
- Explain diagnostic findings and provide technical advice to customers in a clear and professional manner.
- Recommend suitable Oil Condition Monitoring programmes and testing packages based on customer requirements.
- Inform customers of any delays or issues affecting sample testing and reporting.
Technical Consultation & Troubleshooting
- Support customers in investigating lubricant-related and equipment-related issues.
- Participate in on-site troubleshooting activities when required.
- Recommend solutions to improve equipment performance and prevent recurring failures.
- Provide guidance on preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices.
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare diagnostic reports and trend analysis charts.
- Present technical findings in a clear and concise manner.
- Ensure reports are accurate and issued on time.
Continuous Improvement
- Support the development and improvement of testing methods and diagnostic services.
- Participate in inter-laboratory comparison programmes and quality initiatives.
- Keep up to date with industry developments in lubrication, condition monitoring, and equipment reliability.
Technical Support & Promotion
- Conduct technical presentations and training sessions on oil analysis and equipment condition monitoring.
- Support business development activities by providing technical expertise to customers and internal stakeholders.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Follow SGS quality, safety, and laboratory procedures at all times.
- Comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
- Maintain the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and technical competence.
Other Duties
- Perform any other duties assigned by Management.
- Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in lubricant analysis, condition monitoring, maintenance engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience in marine, power generation, industrial equipment, or reliability engineering is an advantage.
- Basic understanding of lubricant analysis, equipment reliability, and condition monitoring principles.
- Knowledge of laboratory testing techniques and equipment is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Familiarity with ISO quality systems and laboratory procedures is preferred.
