Department: Secondary Process (SS)
Reports To: SS Line Leader / SS Planner
Shift: Day shift
1. Purpose
Operate spray and/or printing (pad print/hot stamp) equipment to apply coating, color, or markings onto plastic components per work order and specification, ensuring consistent quality, coverage, and output across whichever process line the operator is assigned to. Operators may be cross-deployed between spray and printing lines based on daily staffing and merged team pool allocation.
2. Key Responsibilities
Production Execution
- Spray: Set up spray gun, mixing ratio (paint:thinner:hardener), and booth parameters per job card; verify color code/paint batch before start-up; load/jig components for uniform coverage.
- Printing: Set up and operate pad print/hot stamp machine; load correct plate/foil/ink per part number; verify against work order before start-up.
- Perform first-piece inspection (color match, coverage/print clarity, adhesion) and obtain QC sign-off before mass production, regardless of process.
- Achieve target output per shift as per production schedule (linked to line efficiency incentive scheme).
Quality Control
- Conduct in-process checks at defined intervals — spray: coverage, gloss, orange peel, runs/sags, dust nibs; printing: registration, smudging, peeling, foil adhesion.
- Segregate and label defective/reject parts immediately (respray/rework vs. scrap); do not mix with good parts.
- Report abnormalities (color mismatch, poor adhesion, misalignment, faded print) to Line Leader immediately.
- Complete IPQC checklists/production log accurately per shift, per process assigned.
Machine & Consumables Handling
- Mix paint to standard ratio and monitor viscosity (spray); replenish ink/foil and manage plate changeover (printing).
- Follow changeover SOP between colors/part numbers/processes to minimize downtime and contamination.
- Monitor booth filters/air pressure/extraction (spray) or machine condition (printing); report abnormalities.
- Report low stock of consumables (paint, thinner, hardener, ink, foil) or equipment faults promptly.
5S & Safety
- Maintain cleanliness of workstation, spray booth/mixing area, and printing station per 5S audit standards.
- Follow PPE requirements appropriate to task (respirator/mask, gloves, coveralls for spray; standard PPE for printing).
- Handle paint, thinner, hardener, ink, and solvents per SDS — correct storage, no open flame, adequate ventilation.
- Report near-misses, fume/ventilation issues, or hazards via the Alert System
Documentation & Handover
- Fill in production quantity, reject quantity, consumable usage, and downtime reasons on shift report.
- Perform proper shift handover: WIP status, ongoing job/color/print, known issues.
3. Requirements
- SPM/vocational level; prior spray painting or pad printing/hot stamping experience preferred (either process acceptable, willingness to cross-train required).
- Able to read simple work orders and basic instructions (per floor language mix).
- Color discrimination ability; attention to detail on finish/print quality.
- Willing to work rotating shifts, OT (1.5x), and flexible deployment across spray and printing lines per daily staffing needs; tolerate PPE use for extended periods when on spray duty.
4. Performance Indicators
- Attendance (zero AWOL)
- Complaint-free output (defect/rework/respray rate, across whichever process assigned)
- Line efficiency contribution — merged team pool distributed by person
