About the Role
We accelerate how our teams adopt and scale digital tools and data-driven workflows across AECOM projects. As a Digital Engineering Intern, you will help evaluate, standardize, and deploy digital solutions that improve productivity, quality, and collaboration. You will work with engineers, BIM/CAD specialists, data analysts, and product owners to translate real project needs into practical digital outcomes. This role suits a curious self-starter who enjoys solving problems, simplifying processes, and creating clear, user-friendly guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the rollout of digital tools (e.g., BIM, GIS, automation, analytics, collaboration platforms) across project teams.
- Document and optimize workflows; create standard operating procedures, quick-start guides, and “how-to” content.
- Build and maintain simple dashboards and reports to track adoption metrics and user feedback.
- Assist with data preparation, model checks, and quality control for pilot use cases.
- Contribute to training sessions, clinics, and office hours; capture FAQs and turn them into reusable assets.
- Perform light automation/scripting (as skills allow) to streamline repetitive tasks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize user stories and measure value delivered.
What You’ll Learn
- How large, multidisciplinary engineering teams adopt digital tools at scale.
- Practical BIM/GIS/data workflows that improve design, coordination, and delivery.
- Change management basics: stakeholder engagement, training, communications, and success metrics.
- Product thinking in an AEC environment: defining problems, testing solutions, and iterating based on feedback.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical), architecture, construction management, computer science, data/industrial systems, or a related field.
- Familiarity with at least one of the following: Revit, Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads/ProjectWise, ArcGIS, Navisworks, or similar tools.
- Basic proficiency with data/automation tools such as Excel/Power Query, Power BI/Tableau, Python, Power Automate, or Dynamo/Grasshopper.
- Clear written and verbal communication; ability to present process steps and outcomes simply.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable learning new tools quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building simple dashboards, scripts, or templates that improve team workflows.
- Exposure to API-driven or low-code automation (e.g., Power Platform, Python, REST).
- Knowledge of common data formats and standards (e.g., IFC, GeoJSON, CSV) and basic data quality practices.
- Understanding of model coordination and clash detection concepts.
- Comfortable creating concise training content (slides, one-pagers, short videos, or micro-guides)
