We are seeking an experienced Mid-Senior level Unix Administrator with strong VMware expertise to join our environment build and infrastructure operations team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering, maintaining, and optimizing Unix/Linux systems as well as managing virtualized environments on VMware vSphere. This role requires experts with hands-on technical skills, the ability to work independently on complex issues, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams in an enterprise environment.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and administer Unix/Linux servers, primarily RHEL, in production and non-production environments.
- Manage and support VMware vSphere infrastructure including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server clusters, resource pools, and virtual networking.
- Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning for Unix/Linux and VMware platforms.
- Implement and maintain security hardening, patching, and compliance standards (CIS, STIG, internal controls).
- Troubleshoot complex hardware, OS, virtualization, networking, and storage issues, including application-to-database connectivity problems.
- Manage file systems, storage allocations, disk partitioning, LVM configurations, volume expansions, and mount-point restructuring.
- Automate operational tasks using Bash, Python, Perl, or configuration management tools (Ansible preferred).
- Maintain and improve backup, snapshot, and disaster recovery strategies for Unix and VMware environments.
- Partner with application, database, and DevOps teams to support deployments, upgrades, and system migrations.
- Document architecture, configurations, SOPs, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5 years of hands-on experience in Unix/Linux system administration.
- 3 years of hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, etc.).
- Experience with storage systems (SAN/NAS) and backup solutions.
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and change management processes.

- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification.
