Job description
Key Responsibilities
- Execute the daily, weekly and monthly mine plan — bench layout, blast design, drill pattern, fragmentation target, dig-and-haul sequence, ROM grade and tonnage — in line with the approved Mining Operations Plan and JMG Operational Mining Scheme.
- Supervise drill and blast operations: pattern marking, drilling, charging, stemming, blast firing under a licensed Shot Firer, post-blast inspection, secondary breakage and fragmentation assessment.
- Supervise load and haul: excavator / shovel productivity, dumper cycle time, road condition, dump management, and end-of-shift ROM stockpile position.
- Coordinate with the Production Executive on feed grade and feed blending into the plant; with the Laboratory Executive on grade control and ore / waste delineation; with Maintenance on equipment availability and pit access for service.
- Track and report daily mining KPIs: BCM, tonnes, strip ratio, dig rate, haul cycle time, fuel burn, drill metres, powder factor, fragmentation, dilution, ore loss.
- Drive safety leadership in the pit — geotechnical bench and slope monitoring, edge protection, traffic management, dust and noise control, blast exclusion zones, water management.
- Ensure full compliance with the Mineral Development Act 1994, Mineral Enactment (Perak), JMG Operational Mining Scheme, DOSH, DOE and AELB requirements; maintain statutory records and registers.
- Manage explosives in coordination with the Shot Firer and licensed supplier — magazine inventory, daily issue and return, blast reports, statutory returns to the Department of Mines / police.
- Coordinate with the Workshop team on mobile equipment availability — preventive maintenance, breakdown response, tyre management, and replacement / overhaul planning.
- Lead pre-shift toolbox talks, hazard identification (HIRARC), risk assessments, permit-to-work, and incident investigation in coordination with the SHE Manager.
- Continuously improve mining productivity — drill and blast optimisation, haul road design, queueing, dispatch, operator KPIs, dilution and ore loss control.
- Develop, train and performance-manage the operations crew; build a multi-skilled bench of operators and supervisors.
