Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Laboratory Technologist to join our team at the National Centre for Engineering Biology. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the research centre, ensuring equipment, instruments, and inventories are maintained to the highest standards. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands-on laboratory experience who seeks to further develop their management skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Keep lab equipment running smoothly through routine checks and basic upkeep.
- Support analytical instruments (including mass spectrometry) operations: monitor performance, handle basic troubleshooting, and escalate complex issues when needed.
- Manage chemicals, samples, and lab supplies: track inventory, replenish stocks and ensure items are labelled and stored properly.
- Manage lab procurement such as getting quotes, preparing orders, and tracking deliveries.
- Provide research administrative and lab safety support to keep daily operations organised.
- Perform other operational duties as required.

Qualifications
Job Requirements:
Essential
- Diploma in Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with analytical instruments and basic upkeep/maintenance (training will be provided for role-specific systems).
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage lab inventory and support procurement tasks.
- Good attention to detail, with the ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks.
- Self-motivated, responsible, and open to learning new techniques and systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Team-oriented, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Desirable
- Prior experience in a laboratory or core facility environment, or in procurement or lab support within a research setting
- Familiarity with mass spectrometry and its maintenance
- Knowledge of workplace safety and chemical regulations
