Role Description This is an on-site 1 year contract role for a Database Administrator based in WP. Kuala Lumpur. The Database Administrator will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining database servers and related processes to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring database health, performing backups and restores, managing user access, tuning queries, and optimizing database performance. The role also involves designing and implementing database structures, supporting replication and failover strategies, and troubleshooting database-related incidents. The Database Administrator will collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to support new projects, deployments, and upgrades while adhering to organizational standards and best practices.

Qualifications

Degree in Computer Science, Computer Software/Systems Engineering, Electronics, IT, Mathematics, or 

Operational Research.

o Minimum 5 years’ experience in database maintenance and administration, particularly with Oracle and 

MSSQL.

o ITIL V3 Foundation Certification preferred.

o Oracle/MSSQL Certified Professional preferred.

o Strong technical knowledge of RDBMS and operating system architectures, with proven troubleshooting 

skills.

o Experience in managing enterprise-level database environments with a focus on performance 

optimization and security

Job Descriptions

o Install new RDBMS software and create databases in line with recommended standards, policies, and 

best practices to ensure consistency and efficiency.

o Configure and monitor high availability (HA) setups and database caching.

o Perform RDBMS patches or bundled patches in a timely manner to keep the environment secure and 

efficient.

o Monitor and evaluate storage requirements, including RAW disk management, and develop capacity 

plans to forecast database growth.

o Monitor and manage database hot spots and data files to optimize I/O performance

o Review, analyze, and resolve RDBMS errors with proper escalation to service providers and follow-up 

until resolution.

o Perform periodic analysis of database statistics and performance metrics to prevent degradation and 

resource contention.

o Ensure compliance with Group Security, BNM, and ISO/IEC 20000 (ITSM) standards and checklists.

o Execute database backups to ensure data recovery in the event of a disaster.

o Prepare documentation, procedures, and operational manuals to support effective planning and control.

o Provide 24×7 on-call DBA support on a rotation basis to resolve anomalies in the Group’s RDBMS
