We are looking for a seasoned engineering leader to take on a VP-level Engineering Manager role within a high-performing technology function at a leading financial institution. What you'll be doing
- Leading and developing multiple engineering squads, setting the standard for code quality, technical documentation, and delivery practices across the group
- Partnering with product and business stakeholders to shape delivery priorities, manage competing demands, and keep engineering efforts aligned to broader organisational goals
- Owning the resolution of complex technical escalations — being the person the team turns to when problems get hard
- Contributing to technology strategy and roadmap planning alongside senior technical and business leadership
- Driving engineering process improvements: better ways of working, stronger cross-team coordination, and more consistent delivery outcomes
- Overseeing release planning, dependency management, and integration architecture across interconnected platforms
- Creating an environment where engineers grow — through mentorship, structured feedback, and meaningful technical challenge
- Ensuring the function maintains readiness across governance, audit, and compliance expectations inherent to operating in a regulated industry
What you bring
- Solid, demonstrable background in Java engineering — you can engage credibly in technical discussions about system design, APIs, integration patterns, and code quality
- Prior experience in a banking or financial services environment is essential; you understand what it means to build and operate technology in a regulated context
- A track record of leading multiple engineering teams simultaneously, with the people management skills to match
- Comfort working within Agile delivery frameworks at scale, including experience with SAFe or equivalent enterprise Agile approaches
- Experience with CI/CD practices, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and modern software delivery tooling
- Strong communication and influencing skills — you work across organisational boundaries and can align diverse stakeholders without losing clarity
- The judgment to make sound technical and delivery decisions under pressure, and the confidence to push back when it matters
