Pantheon is seeking Drilling Rig Supervisor for our major Oil and Gas client.

Location: Kearl

Rate: $110 /hr.

Contract: 6 Months

Represents the company on a rig site to support the safe and efficient execution of well plans. Is the primary contact for rig and third-party personnel to ensure logistics for personnel, equipment and services are appropriately organized and managed.

Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for communicating expectations regarding safety, security, health, and environment; provides guidance and supports managing Safety, Security, Health, and Environment (SSHE) events
  • Responsible for communicating Operations Integrity Management Systems (Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) ) expectations on the rig site
  • Monitors rig operations to provide feedback and input to the rig contractor to ensure well control procedures are properly followed and emergency situations are appropriately managed
  • Responsible for ensuring that safety, operational, environmental, security and other drills are conducted on site at specified frequencies
  • Responsible for ensuring drilling and completion procedures are followed as approved and utilizes management of change processes if changes are required
  • Orders and organizes logistics for services and equipment necessary to conduct drilling and completion operations efficiently
  • Supports onsite surveillance requirements for the operation in areas such as kick detection, abnormal pressure detection, torque & drag, mud properties, and solids control efficiency
  • Responsible for generation of accurate and adequate operations reports
  • Interfaces with engineering and geology to ensure understanding of well objectives and procedural requirements

Skills And Qualifications

  • Experience in rig supervisory or rig leadership roles for drilling and completion operations
  • Experience working for a major Operator or Drilling Contractor
  • Hold current certification for Well Control
  • Prior experience working for a major Operator or Drilling Contractor
  • Hold current certification for Well Control

Additional Skills

The Drilling Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of drilling operations across multiple mining rigs at the site. This role provides frontline leadership to drilling crews, ensuring adherence to safety standards, production targets, and equipment performance expectations within an open-pit oil sands mining environment.
The Supervisor plays a critical role in aligning daily drilling activities with mine plans while driving continuous improvement in safety, productivity, and operational reliability.

Expectation is 80% of the day in the field visiting assigned rigs, ensuring Safe Quality Execution, and providing safety and operational guidance.
Perform pre-mobilization rig inspections when required. List prioritized corrective actions in tracker (e.g., D100) and monitor to closure.
Interfaces with engineering and geology to ensure understanding of well objectives and procedural requirements.
Strictly adheres to the KDP Operating Safety Plan (OSP), local site Interface Agreements (IA) and other site-simops requirements (e.g., AOZ pit areas)
Promote PSMS / SITM, attend pretask briefings and ensure that all task-related LSRA’s are addressed and solid mitigations are in place and effective.
Participate to the online KPA operational safety platform/app and be familiar with all of the various operational forms within the app.
  • KPA offers multiple checklists, well control compliance, safety observation entries, verify and validate (V&V) submissions, incident reporting, etc.
Monitors rig operations to provide feedback and input to the rig contractor to ensure well control procedures are properly followed and emergency situations are appropriately managed.
Responsible for ensuring that safety, operational, environmental, security, and other drills (e.g., ERP) are conducted on site at specified frequencies.
Responsible to ensure contractor is responsibly overseeing and managing all aspects of well control. Be present at all times during well control events.
Ensure compliance with all O&G AER (e.g., Dir 36) and environmental regulations and reporting requirements.
Examine all rig move routes with Rig Manager; verify road conditions are safe to move (plowed, sanded, local traffic, light plants, etc.) and that the planned location is correct, and rig can accommodate the lease.
Strict adherence to all Safety Management System (SMS) expectations and guidelines (e.g., Ground Disturbance and Overhead Powerlines) for new locations.

Assume responsibility for site leadership and incident control as the senior representative until additional more-senior oversight arrives. (Local source control).
Complete controls checklists to ensure compliance (e.g., Well Control Readiness, Ground Disturbance, etc.).
Supervise rig up and rig down activity whenever possible.
Visit multiple upcoming locations and confirm suitability for the rig long in advance of rig movement.
Responsible for generation of accurate and adequate operations reports by the contractor.
Review and sign off on tour sheets.
Align DDR with Rig Managers then enter all NPT into Wellsite Masters (WSM) NPT tracker.
Provide feedback on deficiencies and action required to Drilling Coordinators.
Identify and implement opportunities to improve drilling efficiency and reduce costs.
Promote innovation in drilling technologies, processes, and best practices.
Approve appropriate work permits (working at heights and energy isolation), if required.
Complete one structured safety observation per day (into KPA).
Meet with Drilling Coordinators daily to receive clarity on current objectives and execution of the twice-daily rig plan.
Ensure all unplanned events are communicated to Drilling Coordinators and that responsible resolves are closed; perhaps use of After-Action Reviews (AAR) (e.g., redrills, lease spills).
Be engaged and present wrt wellbore specifics, fluids, geological aspects, and technical installations.
Ensure resupply is available to the contractors (e.g., required casing, accessories, PVC, LCM products, operating fuel, etc.).
Promote proactive hazard identification and near-miss reporting.
Ensure compliance with PPE requirements, safe work procedures, and critical permit applications.
Maintain real-time engagement with Mapping (ArcGIS) and adhere to the access/construction readiness codes.
Understand and ensure Off-MSL rules; regulations and expectations are followed without exception (e.g., proximity to waterways/water bodies).
Honor and respect license specifics such as clearings, mulching, ROW’s, berming constraints, wildlife/raptor surveys, etc.
Particular understanding and attention to Underground and Overhead Utilities.
Compliance with the site and Camp rules – specific and sensitive subject in their drive to ensure project safety.
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
