About the Role
To ensure that all lifting operations at the worksite are properly planned, supervised, and executed safely in accordance with company procedures, statutory requirements, and industry best practices. The Lifting Supervisor shall ensure that personnel involved in lifting operations are competent, lifting equipment is certified and fit for use, and risks associated with lifting activities are effectively controlled.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning & Preparation
- Review and understand the Lifting Plan, Risk Assessment, and Method Statement before commencing any lifting operation.
- Verify that all lifting equipment and accessories have valid inspection and certification records.
- Ensure the correct selection of cranes, lifting gear, and rigging accessories for each task.
- Conduct Toolbox Talks (TBT) and pre-lift meetings with all lifting crew prior to operations.
Execution & Supervision
- Supervise all lifting activities to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Ensure that all personnel involved (Riggers, Signalmen, Crane Operators) understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Monitor environmental conditions (e.g., wind speed, lighting, weather) and stop lifting operations if conditions become unsafe.
- Ensure proper communication and use of standard hand signals or radio communication during lifting.
- Coordinate with Site Engineer or Construction Manager for critical or tandem lifts.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce compliance with company safety rules, OSHA 1994 (Amendment 2022), and DOSH regulations.
- Ensure lifting gears are color-coded and tagged per inspection schedule.
- Stop unsafe acts immediately and report any unsafe conditions or near misses.
- Participate in incident investigation and recommend preventive actions.
- Maintain good housekeeping and ensure lifting zones are properly barricaded and controlled.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain and update Lifting Equipment Register, checklists, and lifting records.
- Prepare daily lifting activity reports and submit them to the Site/Construction Manager.
- Ensure all lifting permits are approved prior to execution.
- Verify lifting operation compliance during internal or client HSE audits.
Continuous Improvement
- Provide on-job coaching to rigging crew and operators to enhance lifting safety culture.
- Participate in regular safety meetings and contribute to lessons learned sharing.
- Support development of improved lifting procedures and practices.
Qualification & Experience:
- Diploma / Certificate in Engineering (Mechanical / Civil / Construction) or equivalent (Added value)
- Certified Lifting Supervisor recognised by DOSH / CIDB or equivalent.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in lifting operations in Oil & Gas / Construction / Heavy Industry.
- Good knowledge of lifting gear, cranes, rigging principles, and load calculations.
- Able to interpret lifting plans and rigging drawings.
- Knowledge of applicable standards such as BS 7121, ASME B30, ISO 9927, etc.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Good understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification.
- Physically fit and able to work in outdoor/site environments.
- Capable of handling multiple lifting activities safely (if any)
- Computer literacy (MS Office, lifting database system).
