Position Summary
The Safe Launch Manager is responsible for leading and controlling the entire new program Safe Launch process during production ramp-up. This role ensures strict compliance with customer-specific requirements (CSR), APQP/PPAP standards, and IATF 16949 systems, while achieving zero-defect launch and stable mass production.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safe Launch Program Management
- Lead end-to-end Safe Launch control, including preparation, pre-ramp, ramp-up, exit application, and audit coordination
- Ensure full compliance with customer-specific requirements (CSR), APQP/PPAP, and OEM quality standards
- Develop and manage Safe Launch plans, Pre-Launch Control Plans, and exit criteria, and submit for customer approval
- Coordinate preparation of key documents including QFD, PFMEA, Control Plan, Special Characteristics Control Files, ensuring timely completion and audit readiness
2. Ramp-Up & Equipment Control
- Station on-site full-time to oversee equipment modification, installation, commissioning, and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)
- Integrate equipment changes into Safe Launch control, including PFMEA and Control Plan updates
- Enforce enhanced controls for critical/special characteristics (CC/SC) including 100% inspection and tightened sampling
- Monitor daily process capability (Cpk), defect rate, and equipment stability, ensuring zero defects and zero customer escape
- Establish containment areas and enforce traceability, labeling, segregation, and shipment control
3. Abnormality Management & Communication
- Immediately contain and resolve quality and equipment abnormalities, initiating 8D corrective actions
- Act as the primary interface with OEM customer representatives, ensuring accurate and direct communication in English
- Participate in all customer meetings, audits, and reviews
- Provide daily/weekly reporting to customers and internal management on ramp-up status, risks, and corrective actions
4. Exit Management & Handover
- Evaluate Safe Launch exit readiness based on customer exit criteria and stable production data (minimum 4 consecutive weeks)
- Prepare and submit exit documentation for customer approval
- Support on-site customer audit validation and secure formal exit approval
- Ensure smooth transition to mass production control plan and continue post-exit monitoring
5. Cross-Functional Coordination & Compliance
- Lead coordination across Quality, Engineering, Production, Logistics, and Maintenance teams
- Drive corrective actions and ensure full compliance with OEM standards and internal requirements
- Maintain complete and traceable Safe Launch documentation and audit records
- Support Operations Director in Safe Launch governance and provide guidance to internal teams
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Quality Engineering, or related field
- Six Sigma Green Belt or above (Black Belt preferred)
- Strong knowledge of IATF 16949 and automotive quality systems
- Minimum 8 years of experience in automotive industry
- At least 1 year hands-on experience in OEM Safe Launch / production ramp-up control
- Experience in Tier 1 supplier environment is highly preferred
- Proven track record in customer quality and launch management
- In-depth knowledge of Safe Launch requirements, exit criteria, and ramp-up control processes
- Strong expertise in APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, MSA, 8D, and special characteristic control
- Experience in equipment change management, validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and risk assessment
- Strong problem-solving and process control capabilities
- Fluent in English (spoken and written) – able to communicate directly with international customers
- Strong leadership, coordination, and decision-making skills
- High level of responsibility and integrity in quality control decisions
- Able to work under pressure in high-intensity ramp-up environment
Pay: RM8,000.00 - RM15,000.00 per month
Work Location: In person
