Power BI Developer

Location: Malaysia

Duration: 6 months contract, extendable to 2 years

Role overview

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Power BI Developer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade reporting and analytics solutions for the Insurance domain. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering insightful dashboards and reports across key insurance functions such as Sales, Underwriting, Policy Administration, Claims, and Finance. This role will play a critical part in enabling data-driven decision-making, operational efficiency, and regulatory insights through robust Power BI solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

· Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports to support insurance business use cases including policy lifecycle management, claims analysis, underwriting performance, commissions, and financial reporting.

· Gather and interpret reporting requirements from business stakeholders across Insurance Operations, Finance, Actuarial, Distribution, and Compliance teams.

· Build and maintain optimized data models in Power BI using star and snowflake schemas aligned with insurance KPIs such as GWP, NWP, Loss Ratio, Persistency, Claims Ratio, and Agent Performance.

· Develop complex DAX measures, calculated columns, and time-intelligence calculations to support advanced insurance analytics.

· Collaborate with data engineers and solution architects to integrate Power BI with enterprise data platforms and ensure alignment with data architecture standards.

· Publish, manage, and maintain Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards in Power BI Service, including workspace management and performance monitoring.

· Document report logic, data models, business definitions, and insurance-specific calculations

Key Requirements:

· 3+ years of experience in BI or analytics roles with at least 4+ years of hands-on experience developing solutions using Power BI.

· Strong expertise in DAX, Power Query (M), and Power BI data modeling best practices.

· Advanced SQL skills with experience querying and optimizing data from relational and cloud data platforms.

· Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling techniques.

· Experience working with insurance data domains including policies, premiums, claims, agents/advisors, customers, and financial metrics.

· Familiarity with integrating Power BI with enterprise data platforms such as Azure Synapse, SQL Server, Snowflake, or similar.

· Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate insurance business questions into analytical solutions.

· Experience using project and collaboration tools such as JIRA and Confluence.

Preferred:

· Experience working in an agile environment with Scrum or Kanban methodologies.

· Prior experience delivering Power BI solutions within Life, Health, or General Insurance environments

· Familiarity with regulatory, statutory, and management reporting requirements in the insurance industry.

· Familiarity with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

Pay: RM400.00 - RM550.00 per day
