Role Overview:
We are hiring a Project Engineer to lead the hands-on delivery of network and security projects – from solution design through implementation, testing, and handover to Managed Services. You will work directly with customers, vendors, and internal teams to deploy enterprise-grade infrastructure across multi-site environments.
This is not a project management role – it is an engineering delivery role with project ownership. You must be able to independently design, configure, deploy, and troubleshoot network and security solutions in the field. Candidates who cannot demonstrate real-world experience diagnosing and resolving routing, switching, wireless, and firewall issues will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Network Design & Implementation
- Design, configure, and deploy enterprise-grade network solutions including routing, switching, wireless, SD-WAN, and firewall infrastructure.
- Implement and optimise network configurations to meet customer performance, scalability, security, and compliance requirements.
- Deploy and support SD-WAN solutions (Palo Alto Prisma, Cato Networks) and next-generation firewall platforms (Palo Alto, Fortinet).
- Plan and execute wireless deployments including RF planning, AP placement, channel management, and post-deployment validation.
- Conduct pre-deployment site surveys and readiness assessments.
Project Delivery & Execution
- Lead and execute network and security projects end-to-end: scoping, design, implementation, testing, documentation, and handover.
- Manage project delivery within scope, timeline, and budget constraints, escalating risks and blockers proactively.
- Collaborate with customers to gather requirements, validate technical specifications, and deliver tailored solutions.
- Provide on-site standby support during critical go-live and migration windows, troubleshooting issues in real time.
- Coordinate with the Managed Services team to ensure smooth project-to-operations handover, including complete documentation and knowledge transfer.
Troubleshooting & Escalation Support
- Diagnose and resolve complex network and firewall issues during project delivery, using structured troubleshooting methodologies and appropriate diagnostic tools (Wireshark, CLI, vendor TAC).
- Provide escalation support to the Managed Services L2 team for project-related or post-deployment issues when required.
- Perform root cause analysis for implementation issues and feed findings back into delivery processes and runbooks.
Documentation & Handover
- Produce detailed network diagrams, as-built documentation, configuration records, and project completion reports for every project.
- Create handover packs for Managed Services including topology diagrams, device inventories, credential registers, escalation paths, and known issue logs.
- Maintain accurate records of all project activities, incidents, and resolutions in project tracking and ticketing systems.
- Contribute to the development of standard deployment templates, checklists, and engineering best practices.
Requirements:
Experience (Mandatory)
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience delivering network and security projects in enterprise environments.
- Proven track record of independently designing, deploying, and troubleshooting routing, switching, wireless, and firewall solutions in production. We will assess this with scenario-based and practical interview questions.
- Experience with multi-site rollouts, technology migrations, or refresh programmes is strongly preferred.
- Experience in customer-facing roles with the ability to lead technical discussions with both IT teams and senior stakeholders.
Technical Skills (Mandatory)
- Deep understanding of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and switching technologies (VLANs, QoS, STP, LACP, VXLAN).
- Hands-on experience with at least two of the following firewall/security platforms: Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cato Networks.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise wireless networking (Wi-Fi 6/6E, 802.11 standards, RF planning, channel management).
- Experience with SD-WAN platforms (Palo Alto Prisma, Cato Networks) – deployment and troubleshooting, not just awareness.
- Proficiency with network diagnostic tools: Wireshark, CLI-based debugging, spectrum analysers, vendor TAC processes.
Certifications (Minimum One Required)
- At least one current, relevant professional-level certification is required: CCNP, PCNSE, Fortinet NSE4+, HCIP, SD-WAN certification, or equivalent.
- Additional certifications (CCNP Enterprise, CWNP, vendor-specific SD-WAN or firewall certs) are a strong advantage.
- CCNA-only candidates will not be considered unless accompanied by demonstrable hands-on experience equivalent to CCNP level.
Process & Documentation Skills (Mandatory)
- Demonstrated ability to produce professional project documentation: as-built diagrams, handover packs, test reports, and implementation plans.
- A structured approach to project delivery: plan, implement, test, document, hand over. Ad-hoc or undocumented approaches are not acceptable.
- Familiarity with project tracking and ticketing systems (Jira, Confluence, or similar).
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills – you will be representing ViewQwest directly to customers.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to travel to customer sites and work outside standard hours during critical deployment windows.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting retail environments (POS networks, in-store Wi-Fi, distributed branch infrastructure).
- Familiarity with network monitoring and automation tools (Zabbix, Grafana, Ansible, Python).
- Exposure to SASE/SSE architectures and zero-trust network design.
- Experience with FTTx technologies (OLT, ONT, fibre optics) in service provider or enterprise contexts.
Job Type: Permanent
Application Question(s):
- Are you legally authorised to work in Malaysia without requiring a work visa?
- What is your expected salary?
- How long is your notice period?
