Group Lead Engineer, Piping Layout

We are hiring in MODEC KL! We are looking for
Group Lead, Piping Layout to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions across FPSO projects. You will guide engineers and designers, resolve complex multi-discipline interfaces, drive standards and process improvements, and ensure compliance with industry and MODEC requirements. Partner with project teams to manage change, conduct audits and reviews, and champion HSEQ. This role demands strong technical leadership, vendor engagement, and resource planning to meet schedule, quality, and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor group activities; resolve escalated technical/interface issues across disciplines.
- Support change management in piping engineering for ongoing projects.
- Drive continuous improvement of work systems, standards, and tools; introduce new technologies/methods to boost productivity, reduce cost, and shorten schedules.
- Review and develop vendors/engineering subcontractors for long-term partnerships.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, classification societies, industry standards, and MODEC policies.
- Facilitate technical audits/reviews and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Oversee adherence to project technical specifications, including piping layout/arrangements, pipe stress and supports, material handling/HFE, fabrication, insulation, and flange management.
- Provide technical support on equipment layout, constructability, O&M, safety, and package interfaces/tie-ins.
- Review/validate calculations, stress analyses, nozzle loads, standards, drawings, data sheets, and key deliverables.
- Participate in technical meetings, progress reviews, and 3D model reviews; address and escalate issues to maintain schedule.

- Comply with MODEC HSEQ Code of Conduct, policies, standards, and procedures; champion a safe, environmentally responsible workplace.
- Adhere to MODEC Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
Leadership & Impact
- Lead and mentor group engineers; plan resources and inform Section Lead on staffing needs.
- Make technical decisions that optimize cost while meeting project requirements.
- Influence tool/equipment selection for the group; build and retain a high-performing team.
Collaboration
- Supervise engineers across multiple project teams.
- Partner with other Group Leads to resolve complex technical issues; liaise frequently with cross-functional groups.
Challenges
- Independently resolve complex engineering matters while meeting specs, quality, and schedule.
- Manage time/resources effectively; champion quality and introduce suitable technologies/materials for FPSO applications and cost-effective solutions.
Job Qualifications
- Must have a minimum 20 years of relevant working experience in piping engineering in the oil and gas sector, preferably in FPSO or Offshore processing facilities, or a minimum of 17 years of relevant working experience for a Master's degree holder
- Proven leadership of multi-discipline interfaces, change management, and 3D model reviews.
- MS Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, CAESAR-II.
