Job Description

The Department of Architecture invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Architectural Design.

The Department of Architecture in the College of Design and Engineering is ranked among the top 10 in the world, and Asia’s best in Architecture/Built Environment, by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings (2025). It offers the professionally accredited Master of Architecture programme as well as a range of graduate and undergraduate programmes in related fields such as urban planning/design, landscape architecture and conservation. The faculty is correspondingly diverse and international. The Department offers internationally competitive remuneration, generous employment benefits as well as access to research funding for both junior and senior academics. International applicants will also receive subsidized housing at Kent Vale, a faculty residence on the NUS campus.

Qualifications

The Department of Architecture's Research by Design (RxD) program is seeking a highly qualified, interdisciplinary, and inspirational candidate for the position of Assistant Professor in Architectural Design (Tenure Track). We are looking for an individual with expertise in creative design research – research through design – who is committed to addressing pressing global challenges such as decarbonization, social justice, and inclusive futures. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on tropical geographies, particularly Southeast Asia and/or other equatorial climates, integrating these contexts into innovative design solutions for warming and fractured world futures. A PhD or a Master's degree is a prerequisite for this position.

We seek candidates whose research is deeply embedded in creative design practice and demonstrated through a robust portfolio of creative practice outputs, validated through peer-reviewed publications and societal engagement. Candidates should have a proven ability to lead with forward-thinking, anticipatory design ideas that influence both the profession and society. We are especially interested in candidates who are leaders in Research by Design methods and who leverage creative practice to envision and manifest a more just world through traditional and nontraditional research outputs. Furthermore, we seek candidates who can seamlessly integrate design, writing, and publication, contributing to a diverse and dynamic academic environment.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach and lead design studio courses centered on research by design, in addition to core, elective, and seminar courses that complement the design studio. This position offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of architects through research-driven pedagogies.

All qualified individuals are encouraged to apply. To apply, please provide the required documents in pdf and indicate which position you are applying for by 1 August 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to deliver a seminar at NUS between November and December 2026. Expected start of the appointment is early to mid-2027.
