Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Principal System Administrator to lead the design, operation and continuous improvement of our core infrastructure platforms across data centers and enterprise environments. This role acts as the senior technical authority for infrastructure, providing architectural direction, governance and hands-on expertise in servers, storage, virtualization, networking, security and related enterprise platforms. Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, etc.) are a plus but not the primary focus. Exposure to AI technologies (such as LLMs and AI agents) is beneficial but not mandatory.

You will work closely with IT leadership, security, applications and business stakeholders to ensure our infrastructure is secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with business needs.

Candidate with less experience will be considered as Senior System Administrator.

Responsibilities:

Infrastructure Architecture & Strategy

  • Define and own the overall infrastructure architecture and road map covering on‑premises servers, storage, virtualization, networking, backup / DR and related platforms

  • Evaluate and introduce new infrastructure technologies, tools and standards to improve availability, performance, and efficiency

  • Establish and maintain infrastructure design standards, patterns and best practices (naming, segmentation, security baselines, hardening, monitoring etc.)

  • Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure infrastructure meets regulatory, audit, and corporate governance requirements

Platform Engineering & Operations

  • Provide expert-level administration and troubleshooting for core platforms such as:

    • Windows Server and/or Linux (e.g., RHEL) environments

    • Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V)

    • Enterprise storage and backup solutions

    • Directory services and identity platforms (e.g., Active Directory, ADFS, identity federation)

    • Enterprise monitoring, logging, and configuration management tools

  • Lead complex incident resolution, root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions for major infrastructure issues

  • Oversee capacity planning, performance tuning and life cycle management (patching, upgrades, decommissioning) of infrastructure components

  • Define and implement robust backup, restore and disaster recovery strategies, including regular testing and documentation

Cloud & Hybrid (Nice to Have but Not Core)

  • Provide guidance on integrating on‑premises infrastructure with public cloud services (e.g. Azure, AWS) where applicable

  • Contribute to hybrid architecture patterns (VPN, ExpressRoute, identity integration, hybrid DNS etc.)

  • Support, but not necessarily lead, cloud-related initiatives such as migrating workloads or adopting platform services when relevant to infrastructure

Automation, IaC, and DevOps Practices

  • Drive automation of repetitive operational tasks using scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash) and / or configuration management tools

  • Promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices where appropriate (e.g. Ansible, Terraform) to improve consistency and repeatability

  • Collaborate with application, DevOps and security teams to streamline environment provisioning, configuration and deployment workflows

AI / LLM / AI Agent Exposure (Optional)

  • Collaborate with data, AI and engineering teams to understand infrastructure needs for AI workloads (e.g. GPU servers, high-performance storage, specialized networking)

  • Provide infrastructure support for proof-of-concept or pilot deployments of LLMs, AI agents and related platforms and tools

  • Contribute to discussions on observability, security and capacity planning for AI workloads, while learning and evolving with the technology

Leadership, Governance & Collaboration

  • Act as the principal technical leader and escalation point for the infrastructure team, including Senior System Administrators

  • Mentor and coach team members, review designs and changes and ensure technical quality and adherence to standards

  • Lead or participate in architecture and change advisory boards, ensuring changes are assessed for risk, performance and resilience

  • Communicate effectively with IT management and business stakeholders on infrastructure strategy, risks and major initiatives

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field; equivalent experience will also be considered

  • Typically 10+ years of experience in system administration / infrastructure engineering, including several years in a senior or lead role

  • Proven track record designing, implementing and operating mid‑to‑large scale enterprise infrastructure environments

Technical Skills – Core

  • Strong expertise in:

    • Windows Server and/or Linux administration

    • Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Hyper‑V)

    • Storage technologies (SAN/NAS), backup and recovery solutions

    • Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, PKI

    • Networking fundamentals (routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing) from an infrastructure perspective

  • Experience with high availability and clustering solutions

  • Strong understanding of security best practices for infrastructure components (hardening, patching, vulnerability remediation)

  • Solid experience with scripting and automation (e.g. PowerShell, Bash, Python)

Technical Skills – Nice to Have

  • Experience with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or others), especially in hybrid infrastructure scenarios

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Ansible, Terraform) or configuration management tooling

  • Exposure to AI / ML infrastructure considerations such as GPU computing, high-performance storage and orchestration of AI workloads

  • Familiarity with modern observability stacks (metrics, logs, traces) and SIEM platforms

Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to translate business requirements into infrastructure solutions and communicate trade-offs clearly

  • Excellent communication, documentation and stakeholder management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence, drive consensus and work effectively in cross-functional teams

Certifications (Preferred, Not Mandatory)

  • Relevant professional certifications such as:

    • Microsoft, Red Hat, or other OS / platform certifications

    • VMware professional-level certifications

    • Network / security certifications (e.g. CCNP, CCSP, CISSP)

    • Cloud certifications (Azure / AWS) are a plus
