Role Overview
The Program Director: Decarbonisation and Energy Transition is a senior leadership position responsible for driving the firm's end-to-end decarbonisation strategy across maritime operations, client advisory, and regulatory compliance. The incumbent will lead cross-functional programs spanning IMO and EU regulatory frameworks, alternative fuels adoption, carbon accounting, ESG reporting, and energy efficiency initiatives. This role sits at the intersection of maritime operations, environmental regulation and commercial strategy, requiring deep expertise across IMO GHG regulations, EUETS, FuelEU Maritime, CII, alternative fuels (biofuels, methanol, ammonia, RFNBOs), and lifecycle emissions assessment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the firm's decarbonisation programs across regulatory compliance, client advisory, and internal operations; serve as the primary subject matter expert on IMO GHG regulations, EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime, CII and DCS frameworks
- Conduct carbon footprint studies and decarbonisation pathway assessments for maritime assets; deliver LCA analysis across alternative fuels including biofuels, methanol, ammonia and RFNBOs
- Oversee product development for carbon and energy transition tools, including EUA calculation models, FuelEU penalty and compliance balance trackers, and emissions software platforms
- Drive fleet energy efficiency upgrade programs; manage technical workstreams including vessel retrofits, emission measurement and verification, and liaison with classification societies
- Support the carbon trading team across compliance and voluntary markets; set revenue targets and ensure delivery against commercial objectives
- Build and manage relationships with regulatory bodies, classification societies, flag states, and industry forums; represent the firm at IMO, EU, and COP-adjacent engagements
- Report to C-suite on program strategy, pipeline, regulatory developments and ESG performance; collaborate with commercial, finance, and technology teams to embed decarbonisation across the business
