Learning Centre Lead Teacher

Caring Hearts Bhd operates Equal Start Learning Centres, providing structured Pre-Primary and Primary education to out-of-school children. We are seeking a Learning Centre Lead Teacher to serve as our on-site instructional and operational leader.
In this role, you aren’t just a teacher; you are a mentor and a guardian of standards. You will oversee a dedicated team, ensure our ESL curriculum is delivered with excellence, and maintain a safe, high-integrity environment for every student.
Overall Role
The Lead Teacher provides strong instructional leadership and centre-wide management. You are responsible for ensuring that the Equal Start curriculum and operational standards are implemented consistently across all classrooms.
Acting as the primary liaison between the Learning Centre and the Education Admin Team, you will foster a calm, respectful, and child-centred learning culture while ensuring strict adherence to professional standards and child safeguarding protocols.
- Reporting to: Equal Start Education Admin Team
- Supervises: Class Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and Volunteers
- Works Closely With: Education Admin Team, Learning Centre Staff, and Teacher Trainer
Location & Working Hours
- Location: Butterworth
- Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM during school terms (30-minute lunch break)
- The Learning Centre is closed during term breaks and Malaysian public holidays.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A Degree in Education or a related field is strongly preferred. Relevant teaching experience may be considered as a substitute where appropriate.
- Possesses a genuine passion for working with underprivileged children and consistently shows care, patience, and commitment to their well-being and development.
- Strong proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Prior teaching experience in a classroom setting.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage a classroom and take full ownership of student outcomes.
- Competency in student assessment and progress tracking.
- Basic digital literacy and data management skills (training will be provided).
- Leadership ability and experience supervising others are advantages.
- Demonstrated record of punctuality, reliability, and consistent attendance in previous roles.
Responsibilities:
1. Communication with the Leaders
- Serve as the main liaison between the Learning Centre and the Equal Start Education Admin Team.
- Provide regular updates on student progress and learning challenges.
- Update the Admin Team regarding teacher and volunteer performance and support needs.
- Report operational issues, risks, or incidents promptly.
- Escalate concerns in a timely and professional manner.
2. Centre Operations and Administrative
- Oversee the daily operations of the Learning Centre.
- Open and close the Learning Centre each school day.
- Ensure strict adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding health, safety, and child safeguarding.
- Maintain centre security, cleanliness, hygiene, and facility care.
- Ensure accurate daily attendance records for students and volunteers.
- Support and oversee the collection of student fees from parents in accordance with procedures.
- Ensure proper management, distribution, storage, and recharging of learning materials and devices.
- Ensure safe storage of confidential documents and sensitive materials.
- Act as the on-site Incident Lead during emergencies (e.g., medical issues, fire drills, or safety breaches), ensuring all staff follow established protocols.
3. Academic Leadership and Staff Supervision
- Supervise, coach, and mentor Learning Centre Teachers and volunteers.
- Conduct weekly classroom observations.
- Provide ongoing training, guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback professionally in a respectful and supportive manner to strengthen teaching practices.
- Support new teachers and volunteers with orientation and continuous professional coaching.
- Recognize and affirm positive efforts and achievements of teachers and volunteers to encourage continued growth.
- Promote a culture of teamwork and mutual respect, where teachers and volunteers feel supported and valued.
- Teachers and staff are encouraged to actively share ideas, insights, and feedback with the Lead Teacher, fostering a collaborative environment that continually improves the learning experience for every student.
- Act as the first point of contact for day-to-day instructional and classroom challenges.
4. Teaching and Student Learning
- Lead classes and model high-quality teaching aligned with the Equal Start curriculum.
- Ensure lessons are delivered in a child respected way according to Equal Start pacing, methodologies, and expectations.
- Monitor student progress across all classes, identifying learning gaps and improvement needs.
- Support teachers in differentiating instruction for mixed-ability and ESL learners.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of attendance, assessments, and student progress data.
- Ensure student progress data is uploaded weekly to the web and accurately maintained.
5. Curriculum and Program Fidelity
- Ensure full compliance with the Equal Start curriculum framework, lesson structures, and learning materials.
- Ensure consistency in lesson planning, assessment practices, and instructional delivery.
- Support effective and appropriate use of approved learning apps and workbooks.
- Contribute insights and feedback to the Education Admin Team to support curriculum and program improvements.
6. Parent and Community Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents regarding discipline and concerns.
- Communicate with parents on learning centre events, holidays, and other activities.
- Conduct parent meetings and handle sensitive discussions professionally and appropriately.
- Visit students’ parents as and when needed.
- Represent the Learning Centre positively within the community.
- Support and oversee field trips and Learning Centre outings.
7. Professional Development and Continuous Improvement
- Participate in training and leadership support sessions.
- Demonstrate a teachable mindset and adaptability to the Equal Start program.
- Model professional growth and continuous learning to the teaching staff.
8. Other Duties
- Greet parents and students to create a welcoming environment for all.
- Undertake additional responsibilities reasonably assigned by the Education Admin Team.
