Responsibilities
1) Research local community, state, national and international current events
2) Meet with the news director, reporters and other news anchors to be briefed on the day’s news
3) Collaborate with the news director to choose stories to broadcast considering audience preferences
4) Organize the news to present the most interesting pieces first
5) Revise scripts and prepare to deliver them on-air
6) Ensure late-breaking news is added to newscasts
7) Engage in commentary
8) Interview guests and other members involved in particular stories
9) Introduce news correspondents reporting on scene and ask them relevant questions
10) Comply with the moral code of the journalistic profession
11) Keep abreast of news developments by studying papers, attending events, etc.
12) Stay in contact with industry professionals
13) Assessing leads and pitching captivating story ideas to editors.
14) Ensuring that you meet all regular and recurring deadlines.
15) Reviewing and editing work for editorial approval.
16) Using all your findings to prepare clean, concise, and factual articles.
17) Adhering to the ethical code of the profession.
18) Keeping records of all notes, interviews, and audio files.
19) Creating trustworthy relationships with contacts and sources for use in future research.
20) Keeping up-to-date on the latest news developments by attending events, studying different papers, opinion pieces, and social media.
21) Collecting, verifying, and deciphering data.
22) Conduct research to uncover interesting and significant news
23) Gather, corroborate and interpret data
24) Interview key persons (witnesses, sources etc.) to obtain more information
25) Use findings to construct a well-written article
26) Retain awareness of the readers’ point of view
27) Obtain first-hand information by being present in happenings
28) Receive assignments or investigate news leads/tips
29) Comply with the moral code of the profession
30) Maintain notes and audio recordings
31) Partner with other journalists, editors, producers etc
32) Establish contacts and sources for use in future research
33) Keep abreast on developments by studying papers, attending events etc.
Pay: RM3,000.00 - RM4,000.00 per month
