Job Description

Requirements

YOU'RE PROBABLY THE RIGHT FIT IF...

You're studying Interior Design, Architecture, or something equally spatial — and you actually love it.
You know your way around AutoCAD, SketchUp, or the Adobe suite — and you're not just "familiar" with them, you actually use them.
Feedback doesn't break you — it fuels you. You'd rather get a hard truth than empty praise.
You communicate well in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Mandarin? Even better.
You show up with ideas, not just tasks ticked off. You're the person who says "what if we tried this?" not "what do I do next?"

MAYBE SKIP THIS ONE IF...

You need a step-by-step playbook for every single task.
You're here just to get the internship hours signed off.
Ambiguity makes you freeze instead of experiment.

Responsibilities

Look, if you're hunting for a cushy internship where you sit in the corner, fetch coffee, and occasionally print floor plans — this isn't it. We're Toby Interior Furnishing, and we throw our interns into the deep end. On purpose. Because that's how great designers are made.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY BE DOING

Real projects, real clients, real pressure
You'll work on live projects — developing concept boards, layouts, and presentations that actual clients will see. No made-up briefs.

Draw it until it's right
Produce 2D floor plans, spatial layouts, and 3D visualisations. You'll iterate. A lot. That's not a bug — it's the job.

️ Know your materials like the back of your hand
Source and select furniture, fabrics, finishes, and furnishing products. If you don't know the difference between veneer and laminate yet, you will.

Get off the screen and on-site
Join site visits and client meetings. Measure, observe, ask questions. The best design decisions happen in the space, not in front of a monitor.

The unglamorous stuff — which you'll own anyway
Quotations, procurement schedules, project docs. Great designers don't outsource the boring details — they nail them.

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH

Portfolio-worthy work — real projects you'll actually want to show.
Mentorship that matters — designers who'll push your thinking, not just babysit you.
Monthly allowance — because your time and effort are worth something.
