Responsibilities

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Operations & Production Planning Intern to join our manufacturing team. This internship is designed for a young, aspiring engineer looking to bridge the gap between academic theory and heavy industry reality.

You won’t just be sitting behind a desk; you will split your time between the production floor and the planning office, learning how raw steel is transformed, processed, and delivered. This role provides deep exposure to CNC machinery operations (such as laser tube cutters and plasma machines), welding quality control, surface treatment standards, and the logistical puzzle of factory scheduling.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning & Scheduling

a. Load Management: Assist in scheduling daily shop floor operations to maximize machine utilization (e.g., CNC laser cutting, bending, and welding stations).

b. Material Tracking: Monitor raw material inventory (steel plates, pipes, structural beams) and ensure materials are staged and ready for upcoming production runs.

c. Lead Time Analysis: Track production cycle times to help optimize bottleneck areas and improve on-time delivery.

2. Shop Floor Operations & Quality Assistance

a. Process Mapping: Shadow experienced operators and engineers to document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for advanced machinery and fabrication processes.

b. Quality Inspections: Assist the Quality Control (QC) team with visual inspections of finished and semi-finished products. This includes monitoring for welding defects (such as porosity or undercut) and checking surface treatments (e.g., assessing hot-dip galvanizing quality against standards like BS EN ISO 1461).

c. Engineering Layouts: Interpret technical drawings to ensure shop floor execution aligns exactly with engineering designs.

3. Continuous Improvement (Lean Manufacturing)

a. 5S & Safety: Participate in and drive 5S initiatives to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient manufacturing environment.

b. Root Cause Analysis: Assist the engineering team in investigating production anomalies or component defects, contributing to corrective and preventive action (CAPA) reports.

Qualifications & Skills

1. Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

2. Open to pre-graduation interns or fresh graduates seeking structured factory exposure.

Technical & Soft Skills

1. Blueprint Literacy: Strong ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D engineering technical drawings. Familiarity with CAD/Revit software is a major plus.

2. Analytical Mindset: Comfortable working with data (Excel proficiency is highly valued) to analyze production metrics and material requirements.

3. Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with office stuff, engineers and operators on the factory floor.
