Job Description
Responsibilities
The Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), one of the research institutes of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), develops high-value manufacturing technology and human capital to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore’s manufacturing industry. It collaborates with various multinational and local companies in the fields of precision engineering, MedTech, aerospace, automotive, marine, oil & gas, electronics, semiconductors, logistics, and other sectors.
Intern for 4D Printing of Shape-Memory Polymer Materials with Joule-Heating Capability
4D printing has emerged as an advanced manufacturing technology that enables printed structures to undergo controlled shape transformations in response to external stimuli. Among the various activation mechanisms, electrothermal actuation offers significant advantages due to its rapid response, remote controllability, precise energy input, and ease of integration into smart systems. By incorporating electrically conductive fillers into polymer matrices, electrical energy can be converted into thermal energy through Joule heating, triggering shape memory effects and programmable shape changes.
We invite applications from motivated and creative interns to participate in pioneering research and development on 4D printing of Joule-heated shape-memory polymer materials for advanced functional applications. The role focuses on applying advanced additive manufacturing and material characterization techniques to achieve desirable polymer structures with good shape changes in response to Joule-heating.
