Job Description

Responsibilities

What The Role Is

Over the years, URA has spearheaded efforts to strengthen urban planning and design workflows through the application of urban science, geospatial and data analytics, modelling and simulation (M&S), and AI technologies.

In 2022, URA was designated as the Whole-of-Government (WOG) Urban Planning & Design Technology Centre of Excellence (URBEX), to lead the planning and design sector in building up these strategic capabilities. The Design & Planning Lab (DPLab) is a multi-disciplinary team in URA which drives URBEX efforts. In recognition of our work, URA was conferred the 2024 Esri Special Achievement in Geographic Information System (GIS) Award for demonstrating vision, leadership and innovation in the use of GIS technology. URA was also awarded the Esri Singapore GeoInnovation Award in 2024 for being amongst Singapore’s most progressive organisations in the use of geospatial solutions to transform the future. Our flagship product, ePlanner (a web-based geospatial platform that brings digital planning tools to WOG) also won the Excellence Award at the Singapore Public Service’s Science, Technology and Engineering Conference 2024.

In DPLab, you will work alongside talented individuals with expertise in wide-ranging domains including data policy, governance, strategy and engineering, product strategy, business analysis, software engineering, cloud engineering, urban design technologies, data science, AI/Machine Learning, and M&S. You will also work closely with planners, architects, and policymakers to co-create digital solutions that contribute to enhancing the liveability, sustainability and resilience of our city-state.

What You Will Be Working On

You will be joining the Urban Analytics team, focusing on Accessibility Analytics. You will work together with both internal URA planning groups and external partner planning agencies, using data driven approaches to improve accessibility to various amenities.

  • Assist with exploratory data analytics of accessibility to Social Communal Facilities (SCF) and other key amenities.
  • Collaborate with urban planners to interpret data findings meaningfully in the context of amenity provision and accessibility.
  • Create visualisations and effective presentations to communicate deeply technical results into digestable findings and actionables for a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Participate in deploying data pipelines for batch processing and scheduled reporting to stakeholders.
  • Develop tools and scripts to automate batch processing of data analytics, and/or develop geoprocessing tools on ArcGIS Pro (ArcPy) to streamline analytics workflows for planners.

    Learning Outcomes
  • Gain hands-on experience in exploratory data analysis techniques applied to urban accessibility and amenity planning challenges.
  • Develop proficiency in creating data visualisations and communication skills by translating complex technical findings into actionable insights for a diverse stakeholder audience.
  • Gain insights into how data analytics supports evidence-based urban planning decision-making processes.
  • Build technical competencies in automated data processing and analytics, including batch processing pipelines and scheduled reporting systems.
  • Develop proficiency in geospatial analysis tools and scripting for urban planning workflows.

What We Are Looking For

  • Internship Period: Aug - Dec 2026. Full-time internship preferred.

Note: To facilitate the hiring process, please state your availability (full-time/part-time), including specific start and end date in your resume or application form.

  • Undergraduate / Postgraduate students pursuing Data Science & Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or other relevant studies
  • Familiarity with Python and/or ArcGIS Pro and/or basic SQL.
