BTI Executive Search Hiring! Full Time Chapter Lead, Backend Engineer (Java, Malaysian) in Federal Territory - Ricebowl

Our client is seeking an experienced Backend Engineering Chapter Lead to drive the design, development, and delivery of scalable backend solutions while leading a team of engineers. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring strong expertise in Java, microservices, cloud-native technologies, and agile delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers (minimum team size of 5).
• Design, develop, and deliver scalable backend applications and APIs.
• Provide technical leadership on architecture, system design, coding standards, and best practices.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, Architects, Engineering Leads, and cross-functional teams.
• Drive automation, simplification, innovation, and engineering excellence across the chapter.
• Ensure compliance with security, risk, governance, and SDLC standards.
• Support CI/CD, release management, and cloud/container-based deployments.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with significant backend development expertise.
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• Java
• Spring Boot 3.x
• RESTful APIs & Microservices
• Relational and/or NoSQL databases
• System Design & Solution Architecture
• Experience with:
• Kubernetes, OpenShift (OCP), AWS EKS, Docker
• Azure DevOps, Maven, CI/CD pipelines
• ELK Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana)
• Cloud platforms (AWS/Azure)
• GitHub, JUnit, Linux
• Good understanding of API security, OAuth2, OIDC, and API Gateways.
• Exposure to integration technologies such as Kafka, MQ, or Solace.
• Proven experience working in Agile environments with globally distributed teams.
• Strong stakeholder management, leadership, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Experience in banking, financial services, or large-scale enterprise environments is advantageous.
