About the role
We are seeking a talented Data Engineer to join our client’s software engineering team. This is a full-time position where you will play a crucial role in designing, building and maintaining our client’s data infrastructure. As a Data Engineer specialising in ETL processes, you will be instrumental in enabling our organisation to harness the power of data, supporting strategic decision-making and driving business value across the company. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the development of scalable data solutions that support our growing business needs.
Key responsibilities
Design and develop robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines to process and integrate data from multiple sources
Write clean, efficient and well-documented Python code to build data processing applications and automation scripts
Develop and optimise complex SQL queries to extract, transform and load large datasets into data warehouses and analytics platforms
Collaborate with data analysts, business stakeholders and software engineers to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing optimisations
Maintain data quality standards and implement validation checks within ETL processes
Document technical specifications, processes and architectural decisions for data systems
Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of data engineering practices
Support deployment and maintenance of data solutions in production environments
What we're looking for
2+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar data-focused role
Strong proficiency in Python programming, with demonstrated ability to write production-quality code
Advanced SQL skills, including experience with complex queries, query optimisation and database design
Solid experience designing and implementing ETL pipelines using tools such as Apache Airflow, Talend, Informatica or similar platforms
Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and experience working with platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery or similar cloud data solutions
Experience with version control systems (Git) and agile development methodologies
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is highly desirable
Knowledge of data governance, data security and compliance best practices is advantageous
