Responsibilities
The Technical Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day technical management and maintenance of assigned vessels, ensuring machinery reliability, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective execution of technical operations. The role focuses on maintenance execution, inspections, repairs, and dry-docking activities while supporting fleet performance objectives set by management.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the technical condition and maintenance of assigned vessels to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Implement and monitor Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
Troubleshoot machinery issues and provide technical guidance to onboard engineers.
Plan, coordinate, and supervise vessel repairs, servicing, and defect rectification.
Prepare dry-docking specifications, obtain quotations, and supervise dry-docking execution within approved budgets and schedules.
Monitor technical aspects of vessel OPEX, including spares, repairs, and service costs, and report variances to Fleet Manager.
Review technical reports, machinery performance data, and oil analysis results, recommending corrective actions where required.
Conduct vessel inspections and ensure readiness for audits, surveys, and statutory inspections.
Coordinate surveys, certifications, and service attendance with classification societies and service providers.
Liaise with shipyards, vendors, surveyors, and underwriters on technical matters.
Support incident investigations and root cause analysis related to technical failures.
Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, Flag State, and Classification Society requirements.
Provide technical reports and updates to Fleet Manager and management.
Job Requirements:
Marine Engineer Officer (Class 1 COC preferred) or equivalent professional qualification.
Minimum 5 years’ sea-going experience as Chief Engineer or Senior Engineer.
At least 3 years’ shore-based experience as a Superintendent or in technical vessel management.
Strong knowledge of international regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code) and classification society rules.
Proven experience in dry docking, vessel inspections, repairs, and cost control.
Skilled in performance monitoring, technical reporting, and root cause analysis.
Strong negotiation and vendor management skills, with experience liaising with shipyards, surveyors, and underwriters.
Excellent leadership and communication abilities with the capacity to motivate and support crew.
Highly organised, independent, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines.
