The incumbent will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of undergraduate Physics teaching laboratories and divisional activities in School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS).
Responsibilities Include
Teaching Lab & Course Management
- Assist faculty coordinators with curriculum planning, marking schemes, scheduling of course activities, and development of experiment materials.
- Test and implement new experiments, manage online course platforms, hire and brief TAs/markers, and ensure timely submission and grading of student work.
- Monitor student progress and ensure compliance with laboratory safety practices.
Technical Support of Teaching Labs
- Provide troubleshooting and technical assistance to students and Teaching Assistants (TAs), perform routine maintenance and repairs of lab instruments, liaise with vendors for servicing, and support software/IT needs for lab operations.
- Conduct training on electronic test equipment, programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python), and data acquisition software.
Procurement and Asset Management
- Handle procurement of teaching lab supplies and equipment, as well as disposal of consumables and assets.
- Maintaining accurate documentation and records of teaching lab inventory and assets.
Division Visit & Event Support
- Coordinate divisional events, visits, and functions, including staff meetings, conferences, workshops, and seminars/colloquia.
- Manage logistics for visiting speakers (air tickets, accommodation, local transportation), create publicity materials (announcements, posters, website updates), oversee venue bookings, catering, attendance tracking, and handle speakers’ reimbursements and honoraria.
Administrative & Outreach Duties
- Support School outreach programs, lab visits, and other engagement activities.
- Perform ad-hoc administrative duties as required to ensure smooth divisional operations.
Requirements
- Degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Candidates with relevant degrees who are keen to develop laboratory skills are welcome to apply - training will be provided.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant laboratory experience preferred.
- Exposure to instrumentation, electrical systems, or IT troubleshooting will be an added advantage.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with faculty, students, and external vendors.
- Problem-solving mindset, with attention to detail and initiative to resolve issues independently.
- Team player with adaptability to take on varied responsibilities, including technical, administrative, and event coordination tasks.
- Prior experience in academic laboratories, teaching support, or course administration will be an advantage.
