The Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing project costs and ensuring that construction projects are completed within budget. The role includes preparing cost estimates, tender documentation, contract administration, progress claims, and monitoring project expenses. The QS works closely with project managers, contractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure efficient cost control and smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and bills of quantities (BQ)
- Prepare, manage, and submit claims for JKR projects in accordance with project requirements and procedures.
- Handle tendering processes, quotation comparisons, and contract documentation
- Evaluate contractor and supplier quotations
- Prepare progress claims, payment certificates, and variation orders
- Monitor project costs and ensure budget compliance
- Conduct site measurements and valuation works
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and suppliers
- Maintain proper project documentation and records
- Assist in contract administration and final account preparation
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and project requirements
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field
- Experience in managing and processing claims related to JKR projects is required.
- Knowledge of construction contracts and costing
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and QS-related software
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Able to work independently and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant working experience
- Experience in building or infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or related software
