Role Overview

We are looking for Payments Software Engineers to design, build, and optimize scalable global payment systems.

This role is highly engineering-focused, centered around payment architecture, transaction processing, routing logic, and system reliability. You will work closely with Product, Risk, and Infrastructure teams to improve payment performance, increase authorization rates, and build resilient payment infrastructure across global markets.

You should be comfortable owning backend payment systems end-to-end — from API integrations and orchestration logic to real-time monitoring and optimization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable payment backend systems and infrastructure
• Develop payment orchestration, smart routing, retry logic, failover, and fallback mechanisms
• Optimize payment transaction success rates and reduce authorization failures
• Build integrations with PSPs, payment gateways, wallets, and local payment methods
• Develop internal payment services, APIs, and transaction processing workflows
• Monitor and improve system reliability, latency, and payment performance in real time
• Analyze transaction data, issuer responses, and failure patterns to improve conversion
• Collaborate with Risk/Fraud teams to integrate decisioning and risk signals into payment flows
• Improve observability through logging, alerting, dashboards, and payment analytics
• Work closely with Product and Engineering teams to enhance checkout and payment user experience
• Support high-volume, distributed payment systems with strong scalability and resilience
• Participate in architecture discussions and drive technical improvements across the payment platform

Requirements

• 2 years of software engineering experience, preferably in payments, fintech, or high-transaction platforms
• Strong backend engineering experience with languages such as Go, Java, Kotlin, Python, or Node.js
• Solid understanding of payment systems, transaction lifecycle, authorization flows, and settlement concepts
• Experience building distributed systems, microservices, or high-concurrency backend infrastructure
• Hands-on experience integrating with payment gateways, PSPs, wallets, or local payment methods
• Strong understanding of APIs, webhooks, asynchronous processing, queues, and event-driven systems
• Experience optimizing payment approval rates, retry strategies, or transaction routing logic
• Familiarity with payment observability, monitoring, and performance analytics
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in production environments
• Fast execution mindset with ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment

Nice to Have

• Experience with payment orchestration platforms
• Experience with fraud/risk systems or payment decision engines
• Familiarity with 3DS, tokenization, PCI-DSS, and payment security standards
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Redis, or cloud-native infrastructure
• Exposure to global payment markets and alternative payment methods (APMs)
• Experience in travel, subscription, e-commerce, or digital goods platforms
• Experience building internal payment tooling, dashboards, or operational systems
